Fastest Skater Competition

The first round is the “race-in” round; each skater will race and the skaters with the 8 fastest times will advance to a single-elimination bracket.  Each race will consist of one lap around the rink.  The starting line will be the center red line and the race will finish at the center red line.  Each race will commence with a whistle blow.  Skaters will skate in a counterclockwise direction.  Skaters must skate around the nets placed at the top of each goal crease.  Skaters will restart if there is a false start.  If a skater has a second false start, they will be disqualified.

Skaters will take a break before the final two rounds at which time the shootout/goalie competition will take place.

The final round will consist of one championship race featuring the winners of the semifinal races.  These two skaters will compete for the title of “PBIHT Fastest Skater”.

Individual prizes will be awarded to the first and second place skaters.  In addition, the first-place skater will receive a case of Powerade for their entire team.  Be there to support the skater representing your team!

PLEASE NOTE – All participants must wear full protective gear.

Shootout/Goalie Competition

The shootout and goalie competition will run simultaneously.  Both ends of the rink will be used concurrently during competition.  Shooters and goalies will be divided into two pools, Paul Bunyan and Blue Ox.  There will be six shooters and six goalies per pool.  Goalies should be stretched and ready prior to taking the ice.  There will be a short on-ice warm-up for goalies.

Shooters from the Paul Bunyan pool will shoot on goalies from the Blue Ox pool.  Shooters from the Blue Ox pool will shoot on goalies from the Paul Bunyan pool.  Shooters will consecutively take one shot each on the same goalie (with each goalie facing six consecutive shots before the next goalie enters competition).  Each shooter’s puck will be placed on the outside edge of the center ice circle.  At the whistle, both shooters will play the puck and attempt to score on the goalie at their end.

The puck and player must be in motion towards the opponent’s goal line at all times.  If either stops moving, the play will be whistled dead, and the goalie will be credited with the save.  Once the puck is shot, the play will be considered complete.  No goal can be scored on a rebound of any kind (an exception being the puck off the goal post, then the goalie, then directly into the goal) and anytime the puck crosses the goal line, the shot shall be considered complete.

The goalie must remain in the crease until the player taking the shot has touched the puck.  The goalie may attempt to stop the shot in any manner except by throwing their stick or other equipment, in which case a goal shall be awarded.

In the event of a tie in determining first and second place shooter and/or goalie, tournament staff will utilize additional rounds as necessary.

Individual prizes will be awarded to the first and second place shooters and goalies.  In addition, the first-place shooter and first-place goalie will each receive a case of Powerade for their entire team.  Be there to support the shooter and goalie representing your team!
